Basics of Online Business Procedures
The key to any well run business is in it’s business procedures. From McDonalds to General Motors, these businesses have perfected the procedures that have made them into massive global companies. It’s just as important for you to do the same for your online business. We will cover the process for creating the procedures below.
The initial thing is to know the procedure that you want duplicated. Know it inside out or find someone who knows it inside out to give you a hand in the following steps. Whoever is documenting the procedure, they need to know it well enough to explain it to someone else.
Second, write down the steps to the procedure. Only use command words: must, shall, is required to, will and should. Do not use words that give options: can, may, or optionally as these words will lead to confusion and ambiguity. It is imperative that you use a numbered list and keep the steps in their correct logical order.
Now add pictures. If the procedure doesn’t take place on a computer add pictures or illustrations. If it does take place on a computer record yourself performing the procedure with CamStudio or Camtasia Studio or add screen shots. Cover everything that was written down in your recording.
The last step is to continuously improve the procedure. Get feedback from those who are using the procedure to see how it can be improved or updated. Once you have the feedback, update the procedure. The more times that your procedures go through the feedback cycle, the better they will become.
